The Winter School of Translation

The Winter School of Translation is a three-day event for translation and interpreting students across Slovak universities. The event is organised by the student civic association Sa zobuď!

The main goal is to create an inspiring space where students can exchange contacts, not only among themselves but also with potential employers, translation and interpreting agencies, and publishers. Establishing oneself on the market can be challenging after graduation, but we are committed to helping young professionals stay in Slovakia.

Another aim of this event is to raise the profile of our profession. By building a strong community, we will gain a stronger voice and advocate more efficiently for better working conditions.

We believe that translators and interpreters are essential to enriching society. Without them, we would be living in bubbles, unable to communicate with the world, read books by foreign authors, watch films and TV series by international directors, play video games, and much more.

We believe that interpersonal relationships are an essential part of a healthy community, which is why connection is key. One idea—the idea to create the Winter School of Translation—brought together people who had previously passed each other in university corridors. Now this idea is bringing people together from the farthest and most diverse parts of Slovakia.
