The Book Swap at PU

On World Book Day (23 April), we held a Book Swap at the University of Prešov, which is something that we are still thrilled about. It stirred up the cultural and intellectual waters of our university and mobilised us to an enriching, uplifting initiative (despite the inconvenient time of the final thesis submission).

For a short time, the lobby of the Faculty of Arts was transformed into a tiny pop-up antiquarian bookshop where attendees had the opportunity to hunt for quality pieces from our sponsors—either from their teachers or fellow students. The knowledge swap was also a very nice initiative, through which we were able to learn about various scholarly works that we probably wouldn't have access to otherwise. Phew! Thank goodness for the Book Swap! For a few hours, we connected via Zoom and in spirit, experiencing the joy that only comes with a sense of kinship—among people who value the humanities, know how to enjoy a good book exchange, and believe that the sharing of knowledge is valuable.

We would like to thank our sponsors, whose book donations greatly contributed to the success of the first year of the Book Swap at the University of Prešov, namely CSO FACE, the Artforum bookshop in Prešov, the State Research Library in Prešov, the Regional Library of P. O. Hviezdoslav in Prešov, and the French Alliance in Košice. We also thank the Head of the Faculty, Vice-Dean M. Sepešiová, for making this event possible and for her help in organising it. We hope that our younger fellow students will also take on this initiative next year and we are already looking forward to further cooperation with Sa zobuď! and future joint events.

Special thanks go to the organizers—Silvia Šurláková, Diana Kendrová, Patrícia Hatiarová, and volunteer Emma Palková, for the smooth running of the book exchange!
